Our department is filled with dedicated women and men who are committed to enhancing community safety and quality of life in the South Haven area. This report cannot possibly capture all of their individual efforts, but does represent an overview of their collective accomplishments. Our purpose is to minimize pain and suffering in our community and we achieve this goal through a range of high quality, professional services such as fire suppression, fire prevention, advanced life support transport service, confined space rescue, dive rescue, ice rescue and fire inspection program.

During the past year, our department has seen the following:

• 2015 call volume was 2nd highest in the history of SHAES with 2,183 calls for service as compared to 2,213 in 2014.
• Albemarle Corporation continues to support our department such as with a recent $10,000 and $2,000 donation toward confined space rescue equipment and new pump discharge valves on Engine 3 and Engine 2.
• Two gas monitors were purchased with donations.
• South Haven Historical Association produced a display showcasing South Haven Fire Department 100 years of history located at the old Hartman school building.
• Van Buren Fire Chiefs adopted Mutual aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) to provide for seamless request for aid during large events from adjoining counties and states.
• SHAES completed its first Citizen Fire Academy.
• Tim Quinn and Brian Horan were promoted to Fire Lieutenant.
• SHAES Honor Guard participated in the funeral for US Forest Service Firefighter Richard Wheeler, who died fighting a forest fire in Washington State.
• SHAES partnered with Bangor Community Fire Department to submit a $500,853 grant request though Assistance to Firefighter Grant for 73 SCBA’S.
• SHAES partnered with Covert Township Fire Department to submit a $20,580 grant request through Assistance to Firefighter Grant for Active Violence ballistic vest and helmets for EMS personnel.
• Firefighter David Henry retired after 36 years of dedicated service
• SHAES staff continues to provide EMS and fire coverage for many special events throughout the year, including 4th of July fireworks, many 5k events and a salute to our veterans event.
